The CoreLogic HPI for April 2017 showed that national home prices appreciated 6.9 percent from a year ago and were just 1.9 percent below the 2006 peak. Washington state led the nation in home price gains, growing by 12 percent from a year ago. While all price segments saw increases, those homes with a lower price point saw a 10-percent gain in April, almost double that of homes with a higher price point. With this rapid price appreciation of lower-priced homes, the country has swapped the foreclosure crisis for an affordability crisis.
