NAR announces ‘Don’t Risk It’ video awards contest

Who said that talking about real estate risk management has to be boring?

Certainly not the National Association of Realtors — which is asking associations across the country to accept the challenge of “producing outstanding educational videos on risk management topics for real estate professionals,” in its ‘Don’t Risk It’ Video Awards Contest, announced this week.

Every state and local Realtor association in the country is eligible for participation.

Submissions will be accepted from now until Sunday, Oct. 1, 2016, and participants just need to paste the link to their YouTube video here, with their association name clearly noted in the video title or description.

NAR is posting all eligible submissions on its YouTube playlist and on this page.

Entries will be judged by a panel of NAR staff members on the following criteria:

  • Content: Educational value for real estate professionals seeking to reduce legal risks.
  • Messaging: Clarity and pacing of video.
  • Technical Execution: Technical quality, including image, audio, and editing quality.
  • Creativity: Originality and how well it captures the audience’s attention.

A first, second and third-place winner will be honored. The complete list of 2016 contest rules can be viewed here.

When, where and how can you find out who won? NAR says winners will be announced at the Legal Seminar on Thursday, November 3 in Orlando, Florida, during the 2016 Realtor Conference and Expo.

The contest appears to be the first of its kind for NAR, though the association does address legal topics through its monthly video series, Window to the Law.

Winning videos from the competition will be featured on realtor.org and NAR’s YouTube channel, and there’s also hardware involved (a plaque) for those who are motivated more by the shiny things in life.
